Harry Potter’s 20th Anniversary

Muggles have been celebrating the 20th anniversary of the release of Harry Potter. Has is it really been that long?!

Facebook contributed to the anniversary by changing the colour of posts to the house colours of Slytherin, Gryffindor, Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff when one of the names was mentioned. You could even get your magic wand out by writing and then clicking on Harry Potter-related words to join in the celebrations!

Snapchat’s Geo-filters

Computers are so yesterday! The creation of Snapchat’s custom geo-filters is now available through their mobile app, which makes it so much easier for users to create filters on the spot. However, the feature is mainly a benefit for personal users, as business filters may prove hard to build on the mobile version. At the moment, it is only available in the USA, but it will be reaching us very soon- so get prepared!

When you head to your Snapchat settings, there are plenty of template filters to choose from (weddings, birthdays and more!). You can even insert your Bitmoji avatar to make it more personal. It is the same layout as the desktop version, so it still requires a perimeter and time scale for the filter. Costing as little as £4.80 per filter, why wouldn’t you give it a go?

#FrapPOOccino

It was announced on Wednesday that national coffee chains, amongst others Starbucks, Costa and Caffe Nero are serving coffees with ice cubes which have shown high levels of faecal bacteria. According to BBC’s Watchdog, some of those levels were ‘off the scale’. These results will certainly shock the iced coffee fans, especially because the drinks are so popular during the summer months.

The news wasn’t a sad fact for some, and many companies jumped on top of the #frapPOOccino hashtag to entice new customers to their own coffee shops. So, where one loses, another benefit!

Dating Apps Introduce Video

Dating apps are in a way a form of social media – especially when used for friend-finding or professional networking. As shown by the popularity of video on Facebook, Snapchat and Instagram, the industry is loving the larger angle on ’stories’ as a way to delve deeper into people’s lives.

This week, both Hinge and Zoosk’s Lively have announced they are rolling out the video feature. A little segment of your dating profile can now show a 30-second video, giving you a huge amount of time to sell yourself! The idea behind the recent update is that using video can show off your personality much better than a static, photo-only profile.

WhatsApp’s New Feature

If you are a clumsy fingered person, which results in the sending of unintended messages, then this feature will get you excited!

The new WhatsApp feature allows users to recall or rather, un-send messages they have sent by accident. A word of warning though –  if the recipient is online, and has received your message, there is no way to recall it! The message has to remain unseen or undelivered for the feature to work. There is also a 5-minute deadline on recalling the message.

The feature was initially made available for the Beta version, but since nobody pays for WhatsApp anyway, we are patiently waiting for it to be rolled out to all of us.
