There are a lot of misconceptions surrounding PR: ‘It’s marketing,’ ‘it’s strictly working with the media’, ‘it’s all about propaganda’. PR does involve working with the media, but primarily it helps you to build an environment that allows your marketing efforts to thrive.

With this in mind, our Managing Director Katrina Cliffe has been invited to host a PR workshop at the upcoming Kirklees Business Conference. The workshop will help you and your business to master the power of PR and understand how to use it effectively.

When: Wednesday 13th March, 11:20-11:50 am

Where: John Smith’s Stadium Suite, Level 2, Huddersfield, HD1 6PG

Key topics include undertaking a PR analysis and getting your PR channels in order. Tracking your PR campaign is crucial to ensure you are not making mistakes and, if you are, that those mistakes are not repeated in the future.
Steps like these, and ensuring you’ve mastered your personal brand are essential before a strategy is put in place. But how can PR enhance your business?

Grow visibility – Getting your company name in front of more people, and in front of the right audience, will help to grow your visibility.

A great example played out spectacularly by mobile manufacturer, Huawei, earlier last year. The company visited the launch of the latest iPhone to hand out free power banks to the queues of people awaiting the release. This was a great PR stunt that quickly went viral, playing on the iPhone’s short battery life ‘flaw’, and growing Huawei’s visibility in the process.

Brand identity – People want to buy products and services from brands that they trust, and good PR can help to build a brand identity that is trusted amongst consumers. According to Cohn & Wolfe’s 2017 Authentic brand study*, the top 100 brands that we trust include Pepsi, Pizza Hut and Nike.

Despite the Nike brand suffering some damaging PR over the years, including the alleged mistreatment of workers in their sub-contracted factories in China, the brand continues to work on creating good PR to gain and maintain consumer trust.

Some good PR from Nike includes the recent Kaepernick campaign, featuring footballer Colin Kaepernick who is well-known for his police brutality and racism protest in 2016 which saw him refuse to stand during the national anthem. The campaign was well-received by consumers and saw a 135% increase in brand mentions compared with the previous week.

Consumer interest – PR can help build momentum for consumer interest in your brand. Your target audience may not know your product or service exists yet, but by using PR to put the information in front of them, you can help to grow interest.

Amazon is the perfect example of this. It began in a garage in 1994 selling only books, and in 2018 sales were at around $141.92 billion. It was around 2011 when Amazon announced the arrival of new services like Amazon Music and Amazon Video, which grew consumer interest and allowed the company to boom in the market.

So now you know why a PR strategy is essential to building your business, come and find out how you can effectively implement your PR strategy by visiting our workshop on Wednesday 13th March.

Katrina will be hosting the workshop on how to master PR from 11:20-11: 50 am at John Smith’s Stadium, and we look forward to seeing you there!
