National Picnic Month takes place July 1st 2023 to July 31st 2023

  • Bridport is the most popular location for a picnic this Summer
  • Expert reveals why the popularity of picnics is increasing

Are you looking for the perfect place to picnic? According to a recent study by UKCaravans4Hire.com, Bridport is the most popular location for a picnic in the UK.

With the cost of living continuing to hit Brits hard, many families and friends will be looking for low-cost activities closer to home over travelling abroad or forking out for high-priced amusements this Summer.

With this in mind and in line with Picnic Month (July), the online booking platform delved into Google Trends data to find the hottest spots to enjoy a picnic in the UK this Summer.

According to the data, the top 10 most popular locations are¹:

  1. Bridport
  2. Llansanffraid Glan Conwy
  3. Garstang
  4. Hilton
  5. Chinnor
  6. Goostrey
  7. Godmanchester
  8. Towcester
  9. Thames Ditton
  10. Surbiton

Bridport, a lively market town situated on the Jurassic Coast, came out on top, with the highest interest for the term ‘picnic’. A popular spot for excellent views of the picturesque Dorset countryside and coast in Bridport is Colmer’s Hill. From the elevated position, you can enjoy watching the hustle and bustle of the local area and watch out for the local wildlife thriving in their habitats.

Llansanffraid Glan Conwy, usually shortened to Glan Conwy, is a relaxing village in Conwy County Borough, Wales. Conwy is known for having a multitude of beautiful parks and nature reserves to enjoy a picnic, including the Aber Falls, which has a five-star rating on Trustpilot. Interestingly, when looking into internal booking data, UKCaravans4Hire.com found Conwy to be the most affordable UK holiday destination based on the price of caravan holidays available in June 2023.²

In third position is Garstang, an ancient market town in Lancashire, just 10 miles north of the city of Preston. The small town is well known for its historic narrow alleyways, relaxed shopping trips, lazy picnics, teashop treats and traditional pub lunches, and is home to the ruins of Greenhalgh Castle among breathtaking scenery.

Just missing out on the top ten is Whitby, ranking in eleventh place. Famously known for its traditional fish and chips, the Yorkshire town is also a popular place for picnics according to search interest.

Gareth Irving, Chief Executive Officer at UKCaravans4HIre.com, commented on the study: “We are seeing an increased demand for low-cost activities for our customers booking UK staycations. Some great examples of affordable days out include family picnics, farm visits, seaside piers, sandcastle building at the beach, walking along the coastal paths and nature hunting in areas of natural beauty.

“Caravan holidays, in particular, are a great way to reduce staycation costs, as many come fully equipped with kitchen and living amenities, meaning you can stock up on food, saving additional costs from eating out or ordering takeaways. We have a large selection of accommodation in these top locations, and our friendly team is available to discuss the advantages of each location.”
