I’m currently at the end of the first year of my digital and social media marketing degree at Huddersfield University and was looking for first-hand experience within a marketing agency.
I have to admit waking up at 7 am on Tuesday morning was a struggle for a uni student, especially after the bank holiday weekend, but I was ready to start my placement week at Wild PR.
I got in involved right from the start, after the obligatory office tour, of course. My first task was to assist Heidi in creating and posting some social media posts. One post was introducing me to the company, which involved an awkward photo shoot. I then spent the afternoon improving my research skills, I am now the resident expert on curved glass!
On my second day, I learned how to use Hootsuite, and scheduled a month’s worth of social media posts for a few clients. On Thursday I helped in self-publishing press releases, and then in the afternoon, I assisted Kirstie in using a media database to look for relevant publications and forward features that clients could be involved in.
My final day came around so quickly, but at the same time, I feel like part of the team already. I spent it continuing research and learning about press track. I sat down with Anna for an end-of-week peer mentoring session where we discussed my experience. My final hours at Wild PR were spent writing and publishing this blog post.
We’re rounding off the week with a team meal at Gringo’s!
Reflecting on the week, I have enjoyed my time here at Wild PR, and the experience I have gained is invaluable. I have learned new skills and developed existing ones such as time management by tackling a few tasks at once.
This week has given me an idea on what area of marketing/PR I would like to pursue after university. A big thanks to the whole team at Wild PR for making me feel so welcome and part of the team and for allowing me to have this experience.
