How to write a blog postSometimes it can be difficult to separate the great content from the stuff that’s been replicated time and time again. So how do you write a blog post and what makes it a gripping? Is it down to a talented writer or just an interesting story?
You’ve likely heard of the endless benefits of blogging for business, a number of which may include SEO, business development, engaging with your target audiences, building trust etc. The list is infinite.
A lot of these are of course true. But first and foremost, a blog should be engaging, informative and appealing to the reader.
If writing doesn’t come naturally to you this can be quite a challenging task. But don’t stress! We’ve got a few hints and tips that could help you create the ultimate blog post that will grip your readers and encourage traffic numbers to your website.
How to write a blog post that captures an audience (and supports SEO)!
Structure. One of the best ways to start a great blog post is to think about what you want to say and who you would like to say it to. What will resonate with your readers? Think of a topic and a catchy title and then take it from there.
Don’t be a bore! Writing about yourself or your company is often a tricky task. Finding the right words can be difficult, but don’t panic! You have a wealth of invaluable industry knowledge… share it!
You’re an expert! Use your knowledge and skills to help your readers learn something new. Share your intelligence and it will certainly pay off in web visits.
Use a thesaurus. Feel like you’re repeating yourself over and over? Grab an old-fashioned thesaurus and never be stuck for words again!
Quality NOT quantity. The typical web user has a very short attention span, around 8 seconds to be precise. So when it comes to drafting content for your site, make it short and sweet.
Take your time. Writing is an art. It cannot be rushed and should never be done for the sake of it.
Always spellcheck! Get a colleague to proof-read. Far too often people forget about this very vital step. Grammar is of upmost importance; think of the impression you want to make.
Put yourself in their shoes. What would you want to read? Is your content interesting? If the answer is no, then it’s probably a good idea to go back to the drawing board.
Think outside the box. If words aren’t your forte, what about a video? Or an infographic? There are plenty of other interesting ways to interact with your target audience if blogging is not something that comes easily to you.
