With 25% of all waste in England generated by businesses, it’s becoming extremely difficult to set up business in an office that takes responsibility for its recycling and waste management.

The City of Leeds alone produces 600 tonnes of waste every single day so it’s no wonder that ‘The Attenborough Effect’ is really starting to have an impact, with a 53% reduction in single-use plastic usage over the last 12 months and many new and growing businesses seeking space that is environmentally responsible.

There are a select few offices in the Leeds City Region that are committed to disposing of waste responsibly, including The Round Foundry and Marshall’s Mill estate, which ensures that 100% of waste from the estate is diverted from landfill.

The community is taking part in an estate-wide initiative as part of Recycle Week 2019 (23rd-27th September), and have partnered with ecoTopia, a zero-waste shop who promote a more sustainable way of living, to visualise the impact of waste produced by Leeds through the use of eco-bricks.

The eco-bricks are plastic bottles packed with used plastics to set a density that can be reused as building blocks and are free for tenants to take home for future projects.

Offers from tenants onsite during Recycle Week include a free coffee and 10% discount on KeepCup’s at Out of the Woods, a clothes swap event at True North and a charity collection of clothing at Motive8 North.

Lisa Riley, Receptionist and Events Coordinator at The Round Foundry and Marshall’s Mill estate, said: “It’s a privilege to work with a community that is so mindful of its responsibility to the planet, and it’s great to continue to welcome tenants from across Leeds who are as green-minded as we are and are committed to reducing that staggering waste figure.”

Recycle Week 2019 is a national event organised by WRAP, and organisation with a mission to achieve greater resource efficiency, in order to encourage more people to recycle by demonstrating its benefits.
