It’s the start of February and so much has been going on in the past week! Facebook has banned cryptocurrency ads, Hootsuite and Instagram have finally fixed their issues around scheduling posts, and we find out who spends the most time on social media plus more.
Facebook bans all cryptocurrency ads:
Earlier this week Facebook banned people from advertising cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin (BTC), Litecoin (LTC) and Ethereum (ETH). This has come after Facebook said it had found a large amount of the adverts were misleading and dangerous offers.
Facebook said it would ban ads that are related to cryptocurrency, binary option and initial coin offerings. They also said that all of these can be used legitimately however most of the ads were just scams.
The policy is of course extremely broad at the minute, as Facebook works to get better at detecting these misleading ads.  This is likely to mean that enforcement will be stronger on all of their platforms including Facebook, Instagram and the Facebook Audience Network.
Facebook adds ‘tipping’ for gaming content:
Facebook has taken a big step to bring more gaming content to their platform, with Zuckerberg’s social network now allowing viewers of livestreams to donate to gaming live streamers while they watch.
Last year, Facebook launched live streaming via desktop and a button to messenger games which enables users to live stream themselves playing their favourite games via Facebook Live.
This has been done by Facebook in order to compete with other live streaming platforms such as Twitch and YouTube Gaming which also allows the user to donate directly to their favourite broadcasters. However, on Twitch and YouTube Gaming how much you donate is represented on screen. For example, Twitch has Bits which have different animated icons on screen depending on how much the user has donated, and YouTube Gaming has Super Chat which changes the colour of your comment and how long it is on screen depending how much the user donates.
Hootsuite and Instagram allows post scheduling:
Hootsuite and Instagram have finally implemented a feature that has been wanted by social media managers for a long time – the ability to schedule their future posts.
Previously, the closest you could get to scheduling a post for Instagram was adding a draft and saving it for later to post it on the platform manually.
This feature has also been added to Instagram’s API which means that other software applications, not just Hootsuite, now have access to the new feature. Instagram also said that the API is available to all of Facebooks Marketing Partners and Instagram Partners.
Instagram also said that these features won’t be limited to business in the future it says the support for non-business profiles will be in the works for an early 2019 release.
