Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Charity (CHNC) is encouraging local residents to support the trust’s staff through its new ‘five’ campaign.
Residents are being asked to give NHS staff a ‘high five’ through a £5 donation, in order to show their gratitude for staff who are working in the epicentre of the Coronavirus pandemic. Over £8,000 has already been raised on behalf of Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust through the generous donations of the community since the government announced lockdown measures.
The new funds raised will primarily be used to provide:

  • Well-being packs/gifts for staff and volunteers on wards/departments
  • Develop quiet rooms for staff to use when they need a moments rest and recuperation
  • Supporting patients mental health through isolation with electronic communication devises so they can talk to family and friends
  • Other items as that enhance the well-being of NHS staff, volunteers and patients impacted by COVID-19

Emma Kovaleski, Fundraising Manager at CHNC said: “We have been overwhelmed by our communities compassion, kindness and generosity over the past few weeks, and every donation and gift in kind has made such a difference to our NHS Staff and we thank everyone for supporting us at this time.
“We have an approach at CHFT called One Culture Of Care, this is our way of ensuring that as a workforce we are kind, compassionate and look out for one another – whilst we also focus clinically on providing outstanding compassionate care to our patients and throughout our communities.
“Now we are in the ‘Active’ phase of COVID-19, we are looking into ways to support our staff health and wellbeing longer term. It is vital that we do this, and in a way which is meaning full to each member of our wider NHS team. Just a £5 donation will make such an impact on our incredible team of frontline key workers.”
The ‘five’ campaign will extend across the Calderdale & Huddersfield’s NHS Charity social media channels, which will see the charity not only engage with the public but also showcase how they are supporting NHS colleagues to ‘Take five’, ‘Gimme five’ and more.
Philip Lewer, Trust and Charity Chair, said: “It’s truly incredible how many people want to support our fantastic NHS staff and I want to thank their kindness in advance. With their support we can help our Trust, our hospitals, staff, patients and communities through these uncertain times.”
