We’re excited to announce that Jamie Hewitt has joined the Wild PR team as our PR & Marketing Executive. Jamie brings film production skills from his degree and experience in a PR agency, where he earned a Level 3 qualification. At Wild PR, he is currently pursuing a Level 4 Digital PR qualification to expand his knowledge of PR strategy.
We asked Jamie some key questions about his experience and career; find out more about how Jamie will support our client’s success below!
What made you want to pursue a career in PR and marketing?
My interest in the industry began towards the end of my Film Production degree. As part of our final project, we had to create various promotional materials to accompany our film. This was something I was heavily involved in, and I particularly enjoyed capturing behind-the-scenes content for social media. I also supported the creation of film posters and trailers. This experience led to my interest in marketing, and after graduating, I began to look for roles in a Yorkshire PR agency.
What is your experience/education in marketing?
After graduating from university, I secured a Digital Marketing apprenticeship through my role at a local marketing and communications consultancy. This apprenticeship provided me with the foundations of key marketing principles and practices. I gained a strong understanding of multiple areas of marketing, including social media, SEO, content marketing, website management, and even coding.
My job role saw me work across different sectors such as education, built environment and sustainability. I supported the team by drafting press releases and blogs, creating and scheduling social media content, regularly monitoring the media, and undertaking desk research.
What attracted you to the role at Wild PR?
Following my apprenticeship, I was keen to gain a stronger understanding of traditional and Digital PR when looking for a new role. The position at Wild immediately interested me, with what the job entailed and the opportunity to contribute to large-scale campaigns.
Looking at Wild PR’s website, I got a sense of the PR Agency’s culture at the company, which certainly appealed to me. Furthermore, looking through past projects Wild has worked on, I was interested in working on similar projects and expanding my experience to new sectors and industries.
What does your role entail?
As a PR & Marketing Executive, I support different aspects of our client delivery. With a particular focus on PR, I regularly build media lists for traditional and Digital PR pieces. I also constantly monitor the media landscape and identify opportunities our clients can comment on. I frequently pitch Digital PR campaigns and business news to journalists, ensuring my pitches are informative and engaging.
Additionally, I draft and publish blog content for our clients and support our Social Media Manager, Hannah Jackson, in scheduling social media content. Using my skills from my film production degree, I support Hannah with capturing video footage on-site at client locations, which is then shared across their social media to encourage higher engagement.
To monitor the success of our marketing efforts, I use tools such as Google Analytics and Sked to monitor overall marketing and website performance during monthly reports.
How will your role support client success?
By working on a mix of Digital PR campaigns and more traditional business press releases, I aim to position our clients as experts in their relevant fields. This helps to improve their brand awareness and foster a strong positive brand image.
I also aim to secure brand mentions and backlinks from relevant publications to our client’s site, increasing their authority and improving overall site performance. A secondary aim of this is to increase referral traffic, where potential customers may click through to our client’s website after reading the piece of coverage.
What has been your favourite marketing campaign to work on so far?
The ‘Mould and Condensation’ PR campaign for our client Clearview was great to be involved in and was the first national campaign I worked on since I joined Wild. In particular, I found it interesting to explore the different media verticals and identify relevant journalists to pitch to.
This campaign focused on educating UK homeowners about the risks of condensation and mould during the winter months. The content provided expert advice on reducing mould and condensation in homes, offering both short-term and long-term solutions.
By incorporating insights from health experts, the campaign really highlighted the health risks of mould exposure.
What is your proudest moment in your career at Wild PR so far?
I was proud to support the PR team in securing some great coverage for Clearview on the Mould and Condensation campaign! We gained fantastic coverage and backlinks from authoritative publications, including The Sun and Good Housekeeping.
What is an emerging trend in marketing you’re excited to explore?
At Wild PR, we know how important it is to be reactive with our strategy, especially the need for reactive comments as the PR space becomes increasingly competitive.
Allowing ourselves to be flexible in our approach means we can be reactive if a trending topic or news story allows us to gather insights from our clients and place them as experts within their respective fields. This is also known as “newsjacking”.
Taking a reactive approach has recently seen us gain excellent coverage for several clients. For example, we provided expert commentary for a reactive article in Homebuilding & Renovating for our client Thomson Environmental Consultants. This piece focused on tips for homeowners if they are buying a house in a flood-risk area and helped position our client as an expert on the topic.
What important milestones do you have coming up in your personal life?
Saving to buy a house and learning to drive!
